Leather, a sustainable choice

Why choose leather?

With the rise of synthetic leather, or artificial leather as we know it, choosing your upholstery seems easy. But in reality, it's not. Genuine leather still offers many advantages and isn't as environmentally harmful as you might think.

The ecological footprint of leather

When we look at the production processes of leather and imitation leather, their ecological footprints are closer than previously thought. Imitation leather is made of PVC, a plastic produced from a combination of petroleum and salt. While genuine leather is a natural byproduct of the meat industry, the term "waste product" is therefore poorly chosen and inappropriate for leather. When leather is sourced responsibly, it is a high-quality and sustainable end product. The sale of leather is also a significant source of income for livestock farmers and thus supports the local market.

The sustainability of leather

Besides its minimal ecological footprint, leather is also very sustainable. It's durable and virtually indestructible. And unlike synthetic leather, which can feel hard and sometimes cold, leather is soft and supple. A sensation you immediately notice upon touching it. Leather is also warm and breathable, creating a cozy feeling without sweating excessively.

The character of leather

Each piece of leather also has a unique pattern, giving it an unparalleled character. And the scent is natural, not chemically imparted like with artificial leather. Leather also provides authentic comfort, something that hasn't yet been matched by artificial leather.
